BQ25713: Pre charge current and termination current value setup

Part Number: BQ25713

Hi team,

I am using BQ25713 to control 2s Li battery. But I have below 2 question when I go through the datasheet.

 1. pre-charge current and charge current are both setup by REG0x03/02. So how should we configure the pre-charge current? And the 9.6.3.1 said ' For 2-4 cell battery, the system is regulated at minimum system voltage in REG0x0D/0C and the pre-charge current is clamped at 384 mA'. Does this mean the pre-charge current is fixed 384mA for 2 cell battery and it is non-configurable?

2. How does BQ25713 determine if the battery is fully charged? I didn't find the termination current data in the datasheet.

Hope you could help on this. Thanks.

Best regards,

Wayne

  • Hey Wayne,

    1. "Pre-charge" current is realistically dictated by your battery vendor. It can typically be around C/5 or C/10. However, on this charger, there is a clamp when the battery voltage is below the VSYSMIN voltage. Here, the external BATFET (PMOS) is driven in an LDO state to regulate charge current. The clamp is there is limit the power loss across the external PMOS in this LDO state. If the VSYSMIN voltage is set lower than the battery voltage, then the precharge current is whatever you set it to.

    2. There is no termination on this charge controller. Customers will use a gauge to measure for the termination criterion, and then discharge charge on this controller.
