TPS1H200A-Q1: What is the meaning of Nominal DC load current ?

Dear all

In the datasheet, page 5, What is the meaning of Nominal DC load current ? It said 2.5A, but I test, when load current is up to 2A, the device will be protected. then there is not output, Why ?

Hello,

The FET is capable of driving 2.5A but the thermal aspect has to be taking in consideration. At 2.5A the FET the max power loss is 0.4Ohms x square(2.5A) = 2.5 watts. The junction temperature rise above ambient is 2.5W x 47.4C/W = 118C. Thermal shut down happens typically at 175C. Thermal shutdown can be at lower temperature i.e 160C. If the ambient temperature is around 41C, the device can thermally shutdown. Please check the current limit pull down resistor as well and make sure the shutdown is not due to current limit.

1. The resistor is set 0Ω, that means the current is not limited ,right ?
2. My ambient temperature is 25℃ in house, not 40℃ .

Hello,

1- Current limit pull down resistor is 0 Ohm, the current limit is internal set at 4.8A typical and 3.5A min.
2- If the ambient temperature is 25C and load current 2.5A, the device may not shutdown thermally. Please make sure the load is 2.5A and not higher.

Are you using TI EVM?

2. I use my board, not EVM, I sure my load is 2A, then device shutdown. I want to know why is 2A ?
