TPS54561: new design

Part Number: TPS54561
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM73605

Hi

I am designing a new DC to DC :  input 24 v output : 12v  load : 5 amp.

I want to use tps54561

Is it recommended converter for new design ?

if not can you suggest new p/n

thanks

pascal

  • The TPS device is adequate to meet your needs. I would recommend you also consider the LM73605 Pascal.

    Hope this helps?
  • SCHEMATIC1 _ Pg20 power2.pdfHi Mr David

    Finally I work with LM73605 .

    Attached design.

Please can you kindly check if OK.

As you can see I add snubber RC on SW pin(I have in past bad experience with my bucker design) Is it OK ?

Please what are the rules for best layout around the converter.

    thanks for support

  • Hello Pascal,

I checked the schematic and the design looks OK to me.

Regarding the Layout guidelines, the Datasheet provides a step by step guide to placement and layout of critical components. Please refer to Section 10 in the datasheet for these guidelines.

    Hope this helps?
  • Pascal ,

    Here are our recommendation :

    1. Add another 22uF/35V cap at the output .
    2. Increase the outptu inductor to 10uH .

    Rest all looks good .

  • Hi Ambreesh

    Thanks for quick answer.

    I will follow your recommendation.

    About the load :

this DC to DC on my board drive a frame grabber board ( another board)  : load is 1.93 amp measured with FLUKE DVM ( input capacitors 160 uf at entrance distributed on board +FPGA +DDR3 +ARM processor+SER DES+ logical driver) .

the problem is (may be)  : a cable of  10 meter ( 4  x 22 AWG : 2 wires for + 12VDC and 2 wires for ground  ) connect between my board and the frame grabber board .

do I have to add  components on my output of the  DC to DC to drive the cable ?

    thanks

  • Hello Pascal,

Add the output capacitors near the converter, before the long cable run. You may want to use some decoupling capacitors at the end of the long cable.

    Hope this helps?
