BQ24735: Getting started on BQ24735EVM

Part Number: BQ24735

Working on the BQ24735 EVM, I was able to get the info correctly, up to number 3 below.

Screenshot when I read the GUI:

Screenshot after I follow step 2.4.2 (#3)

I’m only measuring 0.7V at Batt to GND, Can’t get the output to go up to 12.6V

Note: eloads are connected but not turn on( no load)

I tried proceeding to the next step, but can’t get the converter to charge.

Please advise on how to enable the converter?

  • Hi Eddie,

That's unusual; I was able to get VBAT = 12.6 V by following the steps in the User's Guide.

Just to confirm, all the measurements in Section 2.4.1 are correct for you, but after writing to the Charge Current and Charge Voltage registers, VBAT doesn't change and just stays at 0.7 V?

Do you have jumper JP1 connected? Also, have you tried this with the electronic loads disconnected just to make sure they're not causing any issues?

    Best regards,
    Angelo
  • Hi Angelo,

Thanks for reply. Seems that the IC was damaged. After replacing the IC, the board works again.

Separate question on this EVM, what is the function of this U2 circuit on the EVM? Would customer need to add this to their own design?

  • Hi Eddie,

Glad to hear that you resolved your original issue!

U2 is a dual digital transistor which helps reduce battery quiescent current when the system is shut down (please see Section 10.2.2.3 in the datasheet for more details). This is optional, and the EVM doesn't include it either.

    Best regards,
    Angelo
