BQ40Z50EVM-561: Power Supply as Charger

Hi all,

is it safe for you to charge the BQ40Z50EVM and its connected battery with a power supply with:

  1. Output Voltage as the max allowable pack voltage (reported in battery datasheet)
  2. Output Current as the max allowable charge current (reported in battery datasheet)

Does this setup is suitable for a test environment in which batteries should be charged/discharged in automatic mode by BQStudio?

Or does the BQ40Z50EVM obligatorily needs an external charger for this purpose?

    Hi Luigi
    The bq40z50 is not a charger. You can use a power supply as a charger to charge the batteries and configure the bq40z50 safety protection features to Kick in when you want to stop charging. Pls refer to the TRM of the device to configure the safety feature.
