TPS650860EVM-116: TPS650860EVM-116

Part Number: TPS650860EVM-116
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS650861, IPG-UI, BOOSTXL-TPS650861

hello:

I have bought two TPS650860EVM-116,I have two problems. 1:how can i change the buck2 step size from 25-mV to 10-mV, I want the buck2 voltage from default 3.3v to 0.8v(if used 25-mV step size,i used IPGUI only output 1V ) 2: i can change the voltage by the software IPGUI during the power on, but i will lose the change voltage if it power off and power on again .how could i save the change if i want the change voltage output again after i power down and power on?

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      thank you,dear!

  • Qiao,

Changing the step size from 25-mV to 10-mV involves accessing the set of registers that are only available in programming mode. It is not accessible through the GUI under normal operation. Similarly, in order to save your change you would need to access programming mode to burn in the new voltage setting to OTP memory.

It might be worth taking a look at the user programmable version of this device, TPS650861. This uses the same EVM, so you can swap the TPS650861 with the TPS650860 that is already on the EVM. The TPS650861 also has a programming board booster pack that can plug into an MSP430 Launchpad, which allows for easy prototyping. I would recommend taking a look at the non-volatile memory programming guide for the TPS650861, and if you want to follow that route get the programming board booster pack.
  • thank you for your response, and if i swap the chip TPS650860 to TPS650861 in the evm-116,how could i change the voltage(use which software or tools?)

  • Qiao,

The device settings can be programmed using IPG-UI, although burning in the OTP takes a few extra steps. Getting all of the commands to send to the PMIC through IPG-UI can be generated using the OTP Generator excel tool. Although you are only making a couple changes, this tool will generate commands for all of the device settings, which is necessary since a lot of the settings on the TPS650861 are at a default of "0". We will soon be releasing a version of the OTP Generator file with all of the settings filled in to match the TPS650860, so you would only have to make a couple changes to the excel.

I recommend taking a look at the BOOSTXL-TPS650861 EVM User’s Guide and TPS65086100 Non-Volatile Memory Programming Guide. These will show you how to program this device.

The external 7V that needs to be applied to CTL4 and IRQB in order to program the device can be applied to TP7 and TP43 on the EVM if you want to program after the device is soldered down. However, I would highly recommend programming on the BOOSTXL-TPS650861 boosterpack first to confirm your settings.
  • Qiao,

Have you had a chance to look over the material I recommended? Have you been able to program the TPS650861?

For reference, the OTP Generator matching the TPS650860 settings has been uploaded which may make it easier: TPS650861 OTP Generator (TPS650860 Settings)

  • Hello,i have see the  TPS650861 OTP Generator (TPS650860 Settings),this otp excel can run in the BOOSTXL-TPS650861 EVM ?it can have the function same as the TPS650860EVM-116,that is understand,is it right?but now i have the  TPS650860EVM-116 board,i can swap the TPS650860 to TPS650861,i want to test the TPS650861 online.because the TPS650861 is not the pre-programmed by default and require programming(TPS650861 can be set sequence and output voltages),the next what can i do is to modify the TPS650861 OTP generator excel.it is true?

  • Qiao,

A lot of this is explained in more detail in the programming guide linked below. The OTP Generator will take your settings and generate a script which you can copy and paste into a file that IPG-UI uses. Then using IPG-UI and the BOOSTXL-TPS650861 programming board you can program a device to meet your needs. I would highly recommend programming on the BOOSTXL-TPS650861 before soldering the device to the TPS650868EVM-116, because the device memory can only be programmed one time, and if you make a mistake you would have to replace the device. I have also linked to the BOOSTXL-TPS650861 user's guide below.

  • Qiao,

I realized that we have 2 threads open on this. I am going to leave this one closed so we can continue on the other.
  • you mean this part will not use,we will communicate on the other?
