UCC28951: Constant Current mode for battery charging

Part Number: UCC28951

Hello,

We are developing a battery charger. We wish to use UCC28951 with constant current reference in the Peak Current Control Mode. One possible way we believe is to temporarily pull up SS pin to 5V and let the controller run in Cycle by cycle current limit mode (As we would saturate the error amplifier). Once the battery voltage is charged to a certain voltage, the COMP pin voltage will reduce and we will come out of Constant current mode. It'll not exactly be Constant voltage mode, but it is good enough for us.

The thing which worries us is we would lose the hiccup mode feature. Can you suggest a better way to achieve CC mode battery charging? Is it even feasible to pullup SS pin to 5V to force the controller to run in cycle by cycle current limit mode?
