BQ24103A: Charge status output abnormal

Part Number: BQ24103A

Hi Team,

Customer is using our BQ24103A in their project, they get some questions about the charing status pin. The following is their circuit.

When they connect the power supply to J13 with battery charaged, the status output pins STAT1(pin 2), STAT2(pin 19), PG(pin 5) are stabe all the time, which (STAT1=L,STAT2=H,PG=L). Does this normal? Could you give some comments to the following circuit?

Thanks,

Will

  • Will,

    The charger is reporting charge in progress even though a full battery is attached, correct? The charger likely needs to complete its termination checking routine. If the battery discharges below the recharge threshold, does it restart charge and terminate correctly? If the battery is removed, does the IC correctly report battery absent?

    Regards,
    Jeff
  • Hi jeff;

        Thank you for reply, this is WPI FAE Paul shang,The above problems are encountered by my customer, Now STAT1, STAT2, PG PIN, indicating is OK.

        But,customer found a question,After  charging is completed, Unplug the adapter and plug it back  immediately, It will be recharged for another 5-10 minutes  Until re-indicate the completion of charging.  Is there any way to eliminate this recharge processs or shorter recharge time? Thanks!

  • Hi Yue,

    The battery is relaxing (lowering impedance) after charge stops. To reduce recharge time, you can reduce termination current (which will slightly extend initial charge time).
