TPS7A83A: whether the device TPS7A8300 and TPS7A83A can be used for below application?

Part Number: TPS7A83A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A8300,

Hi team,

whether the device TPS7A8300 and TPS7A83A can be used for below application?

 3.3v input 0.9v output, Iout=0.63A, Tamax=55°C.  RGW package is fine. Thanks.

  • Hi Frank,

    Yes TPS7A83A looks like it would be a good fit. As you indicated we can use the Rtheta_ja to give a rough estimate on thermals. The Thermal Information table is modeled on a JEDEC Hi-K board in order to give a standardized layout for comparing between devices and packages.

    Tj = Pd x Rtheta_ja + Ta
    Tj = (Vin - Vout) x Iout x Rtheta_ja + Ta
    Tj = (3.3 V - 0.9 V) x 0.63 A x 33.4 C/W + 55 C
    Tj = 105.5 C

    As you can see, on a JEDEC Hi-K board, you will remain within the Recommended Operating temperature range of -40 to 125 C.

    It is important to note that application specific conditions including layout and proximity to other heat sources will impact the thermal performance of an LDO. The following Application Report can help you understand how Rtheta_ja is impacted by layout and specifically the amount of GND copper local to the LDO.
