WEBENCH® Tools/TPS54308: Minimum load spec

Part Number: TPS54308

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Can the Webench Power Designer include a minimum spec on the load that supports proper operation of the power circuit?

I used the TPS54308 part but had an extremely light load on the circuit which generated a high power oscillation, destroying a microcontroller. I could have added a minimum load resistor to the circuit, but didn't know I would need to. I had incorrectly assumed that the circuit was stable with no load.

I tried to simulate that, but the minimum load as represented by a resistor couldn't be higher than 22 ohms, and the simulation had some issue: I couldn't add signals to the output plots.

I would want to be able to simulate operation outside the ideal load range just to check things like: if the power circuit starts out disconnected from what it powers, what's it going to do? Or if it's momentarily shorted out, what happens?

It would be nice to see a "NO LOAD STABILITY" flag or check box on the input specs so that you could get a design that is stable in that case.

Thanks,

Chris
