TPS50601-SP: Schematic issue

Part Number: TPS50601-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS50601A-SP

Hello All,

Am I right that on schematics below inductor L3 must be excluded. And because of that inductor the customer has overvoltage issues at Vin which destroy the POL?

Best regards,

Dmitry

  • Hey Dimitrius,

Having an input filter can be fine, however what it looks like happened is the input filter isn't properly damped.

The input capacitor ESR is what is currently damping the filter, so depending on that value, the input to the device may be unstable.

Can you explain the conditions under which the waveform was taken?

    Thanks,
    Daniel
  • Hello Daniel,

The customer has primary power source, our POL in the middle and a load. All subsystems turn on simultaneously. The customer faces transition process at POL input which destroy POL depend on inductor.

    Best regards,

    Dmitry

  • Hey Dmitry,

Why are they turning on the TPS50601A-SP before the rail comes all the way up?

The spiking at first could be the device turning itself off an on with the UVLO because of the spikes in current at start up.

The overshoot could also be the converter before the device.

    Thanks,

    Daniel
