BQ34Z100-G1: BQ34Z100-G1 SOC Issue

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCCHEM, , BQ34Z110

Dear sir,

our customer used BQ34Z100-Q1 in their BMS project, there are two question as below , battery is LiFePo4, there are the 16cell application.

1. use the SOC function, if battery voltage is get to terminal voltage, battery capacity down to 20%, but in fact battery capacity is "0", due to SOC accuracy is jump to very big, that's lead to this issue. but customer want to know, how to improve SOC accuracy when battery capacity down to 20% , in addition, BQ34Z110 whether can solve this issue, is it more suitable for it.

2. just because the first issue, customer give up BQ34Z100-G1 soc function, but use it as the ADC function to detect current, in fact they also meet one issue is accuracy, now their detect current range is 100mA-150A, but when below 1A detect current, their accuracy will rise to 3%-5%, generally, accuracy is 1%. what's happen with it. or what is effect this IC's ADC accuracy?

  • Hi Xiao,

    1. For SOC Accuracy, please check the gauge settings and ensure the chemID is proper. To verify the chemID, please use the gpcchem tool, found here: www.ti.com/tool/gpcchem

    1. With respect to the bq34z110, this part is not recommended for new designs. It has been replaced by the bq34z100-g1.

    2. With respect to the accuracy of current sensing, this depends on the value of the current sense resistor. As the value is decreased, the effective range shifts upward.

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
