TPS2546: How to enable CDP power mode on to periphal device when Host is not present?

Hello,

I have read that in the datasheet under CDP MODE, " USB 2.0 communications is supported, and the host controller must be active to allow charging." Is there a way to still charge the portable device at the 1.5A when the host is not present?

I apologize for the late reply, I have been out for business travel.

Yes, you can change the charging scheme from CDP to DCP charging when the host has been disconnected from the charger.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for the quick answer, does that mean that during CDP mode if no host is connected to TPS2546 charging will not be enabled?
Is there a chip perhaps that does not require switching?

Correct. If you want a dedicated charger that does not rely on a host at all, you can use the TPS2511. But this does not past through D+/D- communication. If you want a BC1.2 compliant charger that also has the ability to past data through to a host, then you will need to use the TPS2546. Hope this answers your question!
