BQ51013B: Current glitch on wireless charger

Part Number: BQ51013B

Hello,

I have a question about Qi charger, fuel gauge and path management. So i put my design below and this one is working fine for our application. When i put my design  on a Qi charger and i data log current thought the battery, i see what is in the graph joined.

  • Does anyone have already seen these kind of glitch on the current while i'm charging? I tried with 2 different Qi charger and it's the same for both... After 1H30, current charge look like something normal. But why between 0h and 1h30 i have something weird?

  • Hello
The odd behavior appears to be at the start of charge when voltage drop across the internal LDO would be highest and could be a thermal issue.
During this time do you see a thermal rise in the device?
Does reducing charge current change the behavior?
  • Hello bill,

thanks you for the answer! Well i thought about thermal issue too, but i don't understand why it's ok after 90min? I don't sense battery temperature and i bypassed it with a fixed resistor.

I didn't try with a lower current charge yet, but it can help for sure. I was wondering if anyone have seen this kind of issue? I used two differents Qi charger and i got the same problem. So i guess the issue shall be on the Qi IC (or path management).
  • Hello
    Any update on this question?
Were you able to try the lower current?
