Hi,

Would you tell me what would happen if the input power is 5V, 500mA and the battery charging power is 10V, 3A?

- Does it charge a battery properly?

- Does it automatically charge with 10V, 250mA?

- Does it have minimum input current?

Hi,
BQ24616 is buck charger topology, so it is not suitable for boost charge purpose.
If your input is 5V and battery voltage is around 10V then BQ24616 will operate in discharge mode condition.
The ACFET/RBFET will be turn off.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply.
I've understood that BQ24616 needs the higher input voltage than battery voltage.
How about the current?
If the input is 5V, 100mA , does BQ24616 still support to charge up to 5V 200mA~3A?
or does it charge up to 5V, 100mA?

Hi,
Do you mean input current?. This part is controller with external MOSFET design, so this part is suitable for high current application.
For 5Vin to 5V output, this part is also not suitable becasue there is no 100% duty.
If you need boost charger, please consider BQ25887.

Yes, it is about the input current.
I am trying design to use 3A input current.
but, afraid that there is a chance that customer might use unexpected input power and it only supports less current than I expected.
Does BQ24616 not charge battery if the input current is low? (100mA~500mA)

Hi,

Actually, BQ24616 should not meet your requirement because there is no VinDPM feature in this part, so if you plug in poor power source then you input power may be crush when charger enable.

I think you should consider BQ24650, but not p2p. below list is simple comparison table.
