BQ25713B: bq25713B

Part Number: BQ25713B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25713

BQ25713B . We connected only a battery to the system. we can communicate with the  BQ25713B via the I2C only if the battery voltage is >16.8V. What the communication has to do with the battery  voltage?

  • Hi Yaacov,

The only battery voltage condition that should be required to talk over I2C is that the battery voltage is over the VBATT_UVLO threshold, which has a nominal value of 2.55V and a maximum value of 2.75V.

Can you tell me a little more about your system? Are you doing this on the BQ25713 EVM or on custom hardware? If it is on the EVM, please let me know what jumper settings you have in place and I will attempt to recreate your issue on my side.

If it is custom hardware, can you check that the SCL/SDA lines are being pulled up to 3.3V when battery voltage is below 16.8V and you are unable to communicate? Also, can you confirm that the BATFET is being turned on (it is a PFET, so you should see BATDRV pulled below VSYS to turn it on.) If the device is recognizing VBAT>VBATT_UVLO, it will turn on the BATFET. At this point I2C should be active.

    Regards,
    Steve
