WEBENCH® Tools/TPS56C215: problems with model

Part Number: TPS56C215

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

hi,

we are trying to simulate a schematic based on TPS56C215 but we are facing some challenges with simulation / TINA model.

in brief, when adding an input filter we observe a wrong SW node (a double pulse, triggered by noise).

I have more pics and the scheme but i wish not to publish it here

thanks a lot in advance

KR

Vincenzo

  • Hi Vincenzo,

Just a quick suggestion, please try to add a cap with higher ESR, such as hundreds of mOhm, after the input filter inductor.
I will look into. It would be great if you can send the materials to sam.zhang@ti.com . Thanks!

  • Hi Vincenzo,

I've tried a few simulations. It runs really slowly... I'm just suspecting the accuracy of the model in this case. I think it's an issue caused by the software and model. As far as I know, input filter should not have any issue as long as well damped. You may just skip the Webench simulation...
If customer insist to do the simulation, my suggestion is,
    1. Increase the filter inductor little by little. In my simulation, at least 220nH is good.
    2. Decrease the SS cap to 1nF can help to accelerate your simulation.
    3. Simplify the circuit in simulation. You may only place an input filter formed by one inductor and two caps. It also helps to speed up.

  • hi Hao,

thanks a lot... i dread that...

is there any chance team review the model, also for the future?

anyhow we will manage with EVM

    thanks a lot in advance

  • Hi Vincenzo,

I think they built the model only for the simulation without any other additional circuit...
Pspice may be more powerful to do this kind of simulation.
