Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2980
I'm looking for a battery protection IC similar to the BQ2970 series but more suitable for small capacity batteries. My product is using a 60mAh coin cell rechargeable Li-Ion battery. I would like to add the protection circuits on my PCB, but am having a hard time finding a protection IC that has specs more suitable for small capacity batteries.
Here are a few of the specs I would like to have:
- Normal operation Icc <1uA (current spec is 4uA)
- Charge over current detection (OCC) = ~200-500mA (current design looks like this is in the 3-7A range)
- Discharge over current detection (OCD) = ~300-600mA range (current design looks like this is in the 3-7A range)
- Load short-circuit detection (SCP) = ~600mA-1A (current design looks like this is in the 10A range)
Wondering if it is possible to change the 2.2k ohm resistor in the V- input path to alter these thresholds?
Also is it possible to simulate a short circuit event by placing a high voltage on the V- pin? (I would use this for say a factory ship mode, so that the battery if not depleted in shipping).
Or do you have another IC you would recommend using that is designed for smaller battery capacities?
Thanks!
