LMR16030: Only Connect a Capacitor between EN pin and GND to Delay Startup

Part Number: LMR16030

Hi, Team

My communication customer plan to use LMR16030 in their smart antenna product. The nomial input voltage may change between 10V~30V, the output voltage is 9V.

Acording to system requirement, customer need to delay 200ms of LMR16030 startup, after system power on. As there is current cource inside LMR16030 EN pin, customer want to just connect a capacitor between EN pin and GND to add delay. They have tried on EVM, and it works.

Is there any risk to do this?

Thanks

Kevin

  • Kevin,

This is a simple, inexpensive way to implement startup delay. The big consideration I see is the variation on timing. You have to consider the capacitance variation and EN threshold min/max to make sure you do not violate the 200ms spec. This may give you a range as wide as 200ms min, 300ms max or more.

If your spec is wide enough to accommodate this, I see no issue.
