TPS7A19: Max. ratings for Vout

Part Number: TPS7A19

Hi all,

I have a question: the max. rating is for Vout=VIN+0.3V. At the switch-off moment in the application, it's not possible to guarantee that voltage. There are on the output up to 80µF. The input voltage can drop within a few ms from 20V to 0V. What is the maximum current of the body diode for a short amount of time? When is an external reverse diode required?

Best regards, Xaver

  • Hi Xaver,

TPS7A19 does not have dedicated reverse current protection circuitry. A body diode is a parasitic diode which means that it is not an intentionally designed diode. We do not characterize or test this body diode. Current is not limited in the reverse direction. If you expect a reverse current condition (Vin < Vout) in your application, it is important to add external protection for this reverse current. Commonly this is done with a Schottky diode from OUT to IN. Schottky diodes are used due to their low forward voltage.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
