BQ34Z100-G1: When/how to use Load select 6 and User_Rate_ma?

Hi,

We have a wide variety of applications for our design. The variety I am writing about here has to do with discharge rates.

In some cases the rate can be nominal, others quite high.

Can you explain how to use the Load Select = 6 (mode 0) in conjunction with the associated value of User_Rate_ma ?

    Load Select defines the type of power or current model to be used to compute load-compensated capacity in the Impedance Track algorithm

    Set the device to Load Select = 6 and Load Mode = 0 and enter a value for User_Rate_ma in mA. This will allow the device to perform SoC simulations with the expectation of the User_Rate_mA using the constant current model.

    If the value of User_Rate_mA is greater than the actual current draw, the device may underestimate the load-compensated capacity versus actual.

    If the value of User_Rate_mA is less than the actual current draw, the device may overestimate the load-compensated capacity versus actual.

    For example, depending on your load profile, it may be beneficial to set a high value for User_Rate_mA so the load-compensated capacity estimation assumes a 'worst case/near-worst-case' load at all times, thereby providing a lower SOC value but ensuring there is 'more energy in the tank'.

  • So when you use the term "load compensated capacity" are you referring the Peukert effect such that actual capacity is a function of load current? Or is this compensation due to other factors?

    I am referring to the impedance track algorithm that utilizes current, voltage and temperature. Peukert's coefficient is not utilized in this device.
