BQ40Z50-R1: best way to implement soft on / off of battery pack?

Hi,

I'd like to implement soft switch (not hardware switch) with BQ40Z50 without external FET just to control power.

One idea might be using Emergency Shutdown feature, but I'd like to hear better way or my way is right or not.

1. Simple toggle switch

- Press : Turn on the battery pack

- Press when the battery is turned on : Turn off battery pack.

Why would you want to disable the gauge? Or are you saying you are just trying to cut off power to your system? if so the switch option may work. Alternatively, you could send a fet command to turn off your fets, effectively cutting off power from the system.

Hi,

1. If we use Emergency Shutdown, is gauge turned off? What do you mean 'disable the gauge' ? We only want to use Emergency Shutdown turn off the power on the system.

2. What is the exact command of "fet comment" ? FET_EN? or any other?

Diabling the gauging meaning put it into shutdown mode. In shut down the gauge doesn't count coulomb into or out of the battery and we don't recommend ever putting the gauge in shutdown except for shipping purposes.

-yes, the fet_en command. you can use the fet_en command to turn off power to the system by turning off the chg and dsg fet

Is shutdown and emergency shutdown same? Is gauge disabled in "Emergency shutdown" mode, too ?

No, the gauge is not disabled in emergency shut down. shutdown and emergency shutdown are not the same.
