TPS40170: compensation phase margin

Hi team,

I measured the phase margin and gain margin of the TPS40170 using FRA.

The phase margin value I measured was 65 degrees.

According to the SLVA662(Page. 2), the recommended Phase margins is 45 degrees to 60 degrees.

Does this result afffect the operation?

Keisuke,

65 degrees is typically fine. A higher phase margin will give you a slower settling time but it will overshoot less or not at all. High phase margin means an overdamped system. A lower phase margin will settle more quickly but it may overshoot and ring as it settles (underdamped). You will see this response on the output voltage when you apply a load transient on the output.
