BQ25898: 10mA LED driver on PMID

Part Number: BQ25898

hello,

Our customer plans to place a LED driver circuit on PMID and sink 10mA from here during battery charge operation.

Could you suggest him if there is any irrelevant operation in ths use case ?

The 10mA LED current driven from PMID is measured as a part of IINLIM current setting by IINLIM register or ILIM pin ?

best regards,

  • Hi Toshiro,

Placing a load on PMID is acceptable but its value counts against the total input current that is available to the buck converter for providing system and battery current. Keep in mind, in charge mode, the voltage on PMID = VBUS-IBUS*RDSonQ1. So, if VBUS increases to 12V, then PMID ~=12V. Would driving the LED from REGN work?

    Regards,
    Jeff
  • Thank you very much. I understand that the current flown from PMID to LED is a part of IIN, so the max input current must be IINLIM - LED current.

    best regards,
