BQ25882: what's the purpose of watchdog?

Part Number: BQ25882

Hi,

in default set of BQ25882, if the register is not written within 40s, the watchdog timer will expire and reset the registers.

What's the purpose of add watchdog function for this device?

Are there any risk if I disable the watchdog at the first time I write the registers through MCU?

  • Hi Howard,

As with all of our host chargers, the watchdog timer is used to confirm that a host is present and presumably monitoring charge operation for safety. If it expires, the registers return to default settings, which, we predict, will provide a safer charge configuration (lower input current limit, lower charge current, etc). Disabling the watchdog timer is acceptable.

    Regards,
