TLC59116: Two or more leds in serial connection

Part Number: TLC59116

Hello

I want to connect two leds in serial connection to each output of this driver. In all documents I see one led to each output and anode of it connected to 5volts. Is it correct con connect two leds in serial and power the string to 12 volts (VLED, anode of the 1st led of the string = 12V)?

The leds I want to use have a 3v drop Vf at 30mA current

thank you for your prompt answer

  • The OUTx of TLC59116 can survive 17V max.

    So you can use Vled<17V.

If you have two Vf=3V LEDs in series, the best Vled = 2*Vf+1V=7V. If you use 12V, there'll be 12-6=6V voltage drop on the OUT, and this is a little high for thermal consideration.
