BQ76940: Temperature from External Thermistor is not coming for TS2 and TS3

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00792

Hey hello , when I use temperature selection as Internal Die Temperature , all three temperature reading can be successfully fetched from their equivalent register.

Now when we use External Thermistor , only reading from TS1 comes correct , rest TS2 and TS3 comes with dummy readings.

One thing I observed that during its first start TS2 and TS3 comes for say just 3 sec and then dummy value starts

  • When using the internal die temperature option, the TS1, TS2, and TS3 readings all report internal temperatures from different parts of the device. The reason that you see normal readings for a few seconds when switching to the External thermistors is because temperature measurements are only updated every 2 seconds and there is some latency when switching between internal and external.

To debug why the TS2 and TS3 are not measuring correctly, verify that your connections are matching Figure 14 in the datasheet. The NTC for TS2 should be connected between TS2 and VC5x, and for TS3 it should be between TS3 and VC10x. You can also look at the EVM schematic or one of the TI reference designs using this device like TIDA-00792.

    Best regards,
    Matt
