BQ4050: Normal/Sleep Mode

Part Number: BQ4050

Hi,

As it is written in the datasheet-

The bq4050 gauge performs measurements, calculations, protection decisions, and data updates in 250mS intervals or adjustable time intervals, according to the mode (Sleep/Normal).

My questions are:

1- Does it performs the coloumb counter in sleep/normal mode?

2- Does it communicate via SMBus in Sleep mode?

Regards,

Arkadi

  • Hi Arkadi

    1. In sleep mode the gauge wakes ones every 20s, takes Voltage, current and temp measurements, performs calculations for rem cap and SOC and then goes back into sleep. So yes in sleep mode it coulomb counts for just 1s when it wakes. If current is measured in that 1s it wakes, it tries to compensate for the remainder time it is asleep given that it is not coulomb counting in that period.

    2. The gauge exits sleep mode when communication is detected .
