Dear TI,

What is the best choice for monitoring the full charge capacity of Lead-acid batteries up until 100Ah.

BQ34Z100-G1 (Impedance Track)

BQ34110 (CEDV gauge)

I do not see an evaluation module for the BQ34Z100-G1, only one for the BQ34Z100 which doesn't support lead-acid.

Does the Bq34z100EVM also support lead-acid batteries?

Hi Remko,

The bq34z100EVM comes with the bq34z100-g1.

The selection between CEDV and IT algorithms depends on your application requirements and load profiles.

Hi Bryan!

Thanks for your response, those videos were very helpful.
I think the Impedence Track algorithm is the best for my application because it does not always fully discharge/charge.
So my choice would be to use the bq34z100-g1.

Is it also accurate if the battery model is unknown? The battery might be replaced by the user by a different model, will it then automatically recalibrate?

Is it necessary to use the EV2400 or can I just use my own processor and manually set everything on the bq34z100EVM using I2C?

Hi Remiko,

Unfortunately, the operation of the device is tied to the chemical ID of the battery and needs to be configured to match the battery.

It is highly recommended to perform the engineering calibration and bring up of the device with the EV2400 and bqStudio. bqStudio will provide a Flashstream output when the golden image is created that consists of easily parsed i2c or hdq commands for your processor, in production.
