BQ78350-R1: State of charge deviation in idle state

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, BQSTUDIO

Hello,

I am having an issue with the fuel gauge bq78350. Let me explain :

When the battery (li-ion, 14s, 48V) stays in idle mode for a certain time, the SOC reaches 100% and the TCA (terminate charge alarm) bit activates. This can happen even when the battery is totally discharged...

Do you have an explanation on why the bq7350 displays a SOC that is totally wrong ?

Is there a possibility to change manually the SOC to set it right ?

If no, is there a possibility to do something to reset the SOC ?

Thanks for your help on that topic.

Regards,

  • Hi,

That is a strange behavior. Is the device being put into Shutdown mode at any point? When the device enters and exits Shutdown, it must determine SOC based only on the battery voltage. The BQ78350 uses the ChemID you selected to determine the SOC from the battery voltage. The SOC cannot be changed manually.

If this is not the issue, can you send me your settings file. You can save your dataflash settings to a file by clicking the Export button on the Data Memory screen of BQStudio.

    Best regards,

    Matt
