TPS84259: Is it feasible to generate -12V from a 12V supply?

Part Number: TPS84259
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZM33606, LMZM33603

Is it feasible to generate -12V from a 12V supply with TPS84259?

From the first graph shown in the datasheet I guess that it is possbile and that in this condition the output current is limited to 0.7-0.8A. Is it correct?

  • Hi Gabriele,

What is your application (VIN,VOUT,IOUT)? It is correct that the "Safe Operating Current" graph provides the recommended maximum input voltage and load current operation of the part. For 12V -> -12V application the maximum load current will be roughly 0.75A. If you want more load current, you might want to look into configuring a buck module into an inverting buck using the LMZM33603 or even LMZM33606 both of which have their own respective app notes SNVA800 and SNVA835.

    Regards,
