BQ40Z80EVM-020: Getting started on EVM

Part Number: BQ40Z80EVM-020
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO

1. Using BQ Studio 1.3.90 (newly installed yesterday)

2. At startup, when attempting to connect, the attached error message was received.

3. After clicking ok, it looks like connected, but there is no response when clicking other options. This is followed by error message: "timeout or unexpected response communicating from device"

Other info: Only "LED enable" works. Turns on/off LEDs on EVM. Other options don't work.

Please advise how to overcome this error. Is it board damage?

  • Hi Eddie,

For initial bringup, please ensure that the device is powered in a 6S configuration with a battery simulator (ladder network of same valued resistors with a power supply, as described in the User Manual). Connect the EV2400 to the computer via USB and the EVM to the EV2400 via SMBUS port.

Hold down the wakeup button for > 1s and then launch bqStudio again. It should autodetect.

If it does not autodetect, please select the currently highlighted bqz. The dashboard should load. Please let us know what firmware version the device is (if there is a mismatch between the v0.02 the bqz is expecting).

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
