BQ25713: Compensation Formulas?

Part Number: BQ25713

Hello Support,

Are there any formulas or spreadsheets for calculating the compensation network values for the BQ25713? The datasheet just refers to the network on the EVM. Is the EVM's compensation network really all you need?

Thanks!
Jason

  • Hi Jason,

There are a number of control loops implemented in BQ25713. Some of the primary loops are Constant-Current Charging (buck or boost), Constant-Voltage charging (buck or boost), IIN_DPM, VIIN_DPM and OTP (buck or boost). These loops are active at different times, and part of the complexity of designing BQ25713 was ensuring that these various loops could all be properly compensated using the same compensation.

For this reason, calculating the needed compensation is not as straightforward as it would be for a system that had just one operational mode, and the intention is that all customers will use the validated compensation network that is on the EVM.

Please note that this compensation network is designed for an output stage whose resonant frequency is 10 KHz- 20 KHz, so this condition needs to be met in your design.

    Regards,
    Steve
  • Hi Steve,

Thank you very much for the answer and background. I will use the Eval board's compensation and mind the output stage resonant frequency
