UCC28070-Q1: the relationship between two phases

Part Number: UCC28070-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28070

We used UCC28070 as controller of interleaved boost PFC. Found unit failed after high/low temp cycling. One of the current transformer core cracked, please advise the reaction on two phase if one phase current sense transformer core damaged by mechanical stress. Is it possible damage PFC FET?

  • Hello shuang qiu,
If one of the current transformers cores cracks then the CSA or CSB signal is lost or severely degraded.
The current amplifier will saturate high and the PWM will go to maximum duty cycle.
That is the worst case that could happen.
It could also be that the CT continues to operate with a cracked core and the CSA,CSB signal is lost if the core only falls apart.
The other phase should continue to operate normally and the overall performance of the pfc will be degraded.

    Regards
    John
