BQ76920: SCD comparator offset drift

Part Number: BQ76920

Hi Team,

My customer burned the fuse on battery pack protection broad during short circuit test at 55C. They didn't meet the same issue while testing at 25C.

May I know the SCD comparator offset drift value or what else might cause such issue?

Thanks and best regards,

Victor

  • Hi Victor,
The SCD thersholds were flat enough over temp that they were not considered to need a specification. I would expect perhaps a 1 mV movement over temperature.
The FET may be harder to turn off at high temperature.
You might check the design's capacitor temp coefficients. Y5V capacitors are known to have a quick drop with temperature. For sense filter capacitors this would seem to speed up response, if used for the power filter capacitor the supply voltage may be able to drop unexpectedly at high temperature possibly allowing the BQ76920 to loose power or the gate drive voltage to droop excessively.
You will probably need to take some measurements to determine what is changing with temperature.
