UCC3895: Ringing issues in the output of UCC3895

Part Number: UCC3895

Hi all,

We are in the development stages of 10kw phase shifted full bridge converter. we used UCC3895 for generating phase shifted PWM signal and we used SID1182K driver for driving the SIC MOSFETs. Switching frequency is 100kHz. We tested the control card independently and we  got very good PWM signals. Our driver card also tested independently and that also works fine.then we integrated control card, driver card and power board. We didn't observed any ringing in the PWM signal which is coming from UCC3895. Then we started to testing full bridge alone with these PWM Signal. We made some changes in the control card for to get max phase shifted PWM signal. Then we gradually increased the voltage input to the full bridge. Once the input voltage crosses 10volt, we observed huge ringing in the PWM signal from UCC 3895. Is this driver IC is not compactable with UCC 3895???. UCC output is 12V PWM signal. But driver IC accept only below 5V siganl. For this we used a simple resistive divider to reduce 12 V to less than 5V. Is that cause for ringing????.

  • Hi Saneesh,

Can you share the schematic and waveforms which describe the issue that you are seeing.

The SID1182K driver has a logic level input, probably 5V max and the signal from the UCC3895 will be at Vcc probably 10V? so you may need to divide down the PWM signal from the UCC before applying it to the SID device input.

    Thanks

    Peter
  • Hi SANEESH,

It can not use simple resistor divider to reduce 12 V to less than 5V.
Because large gate resistor will lead to a very small driver current and driver capability.
