TPS2546: STATUS behavior under DCP_AUTO

Part Number: TPS2546

Hi,

I have two questions about STATUS pin under DCP_AUTO mode.

  1. When CTL1/2/3/ILIM_SEL is configured as "0011" (DCP_AUTO/Power WAKE LIMIT), if a current > IOS_PW (55mA typ) is detected, STATUS should be asserted low.  Is there any debounce timing for STATUS to change from high to low at this moment?  (For low-to-high scenario, there's a15 sec timing defined.)
  2. When CTL1/2/3/ILIM_SEL is configured as "0111" (DCP_AUTO/Non Power WAKE LIMIT), ILD is defined as a much higher threshold at 700mA/typ.  May we know what kind of application scenario could need such setting?  I didn't find an application example in the datasheet.

Thanks!

Antony

  • Hi Antony,

    Answers to your questions below.

    1. I do not have the exact time from when the current is greater than 55mA to when the STATUS pin goes low, but it is marginal and should not effect a system. You are correct though that there is a 15 sec delay from when the current drops below 55mA and the STATUS pin goes high

    2. You would use the higher or lower current threshold based on the type of device you are wanting to detect that is being connected. For example, if you want your system to indicate a status connection when a lower current consumption device like a mouse or keyboard is connected, then you would use "0011". If you only want the system to detect a high current device being connected such as a phone, then you would use "0111"
