BQ24780S: BQ24780S

Part Number: BQ24780S

Hi ,

I am trying to understand more in detail about the PROCHOT options in  BQ24780S charger . Do the events in the PROCHOT option registers trigger only during Hybrid boost mode or do they trigger for example say In Normal operating condition I enable ACOK in PROCHOT option 1 and when I remove A.C and leave it with battery connected will it still detect the event in PROCHOT  status ?

Thanks,

Naveesh

  • Hi Naveesh,

The device does not have to be in hybrid power boost mode for the PROCHOT events to trigger. For example, in the waveform below, I toggled CMPIN above and below 2.3 V to change CMPOUT. PROCHOT pulled low even though I had no battery or system connected, and the device was not in hybrid power boost mode.

    Best regards,

    Angelo

  • Hi Angelo,

So it triggers for events like remove A.C or remove battery right ?
From my understanding, we should have the following cases:

-if the AC is connected and the battery is connected, the value in the prochot status register should be 0x0000
-if only the battery is connected , the value of the prochot status register should be 0x0001
-if only the AC is connected, the value of the prochot status register should be 0x0002

I noticed a situation very similar to the one described .
After reboot, when the battery is disconnected, the disconnection event is triggered only once, after this the value in the status prochot
resets to zero (even if the battery is not connected).

So, you will get only once the right value: ?

    Thanks,
    Naveesh
  • Hi Naveesh,

Yes, PROCHOT should trigger for ACOK and BATPRES assuming their respective bits are enabled in the ProchotOption1 register.

The ProchotStatus register resets when either of the two conditions below occurs:
