Isolated dc to dc power converter requirement

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28950, LM5046, LM25037

Hi,

I am designing one medium power isolated DC to DC converter for automotive application with following specification.

Input voltage = Max 110Vdc & Input voltage = Min 83Vdc

Output voltage = 12Vdc

Output current = 25Adc

Output power = 300W continuous

I am at the beginning stage of design, could you please help me to select the right topology for above specification?

Earlier I have chosen PSFB, but I was wondering PSFB will be costly solution for 300W output power application. So need suggestion on this.

Also, after selection of topology I will be interested to know the suggested parts from TI power portfolio.

Thank you

Regards,

Rajesh

  • Hi Rejesh,
PSFB and LLC topology are both very suitable for the requested spec.
Because the output current is large, SR is necessary for this application. PSFB device UCC28950/1 integrates the SR driver, and it is easier to use than LLC topology. I firstly recommend PSFB UCC28950/1 solution though cost of UCC28950/1 is a litter higher than LLC device UCC25630X Solution.
Of cause, if you really concern the cost, you can use LLC UCC25630x solution, it can also play well in this spec.

  • Hi Teng,

Thank you for the suggestion, your suggestion is valuable for me.

I have understood the points in your reply and I have queries related to this which are highlighted below.

    1. Considering PSFB topology, can we use LM5046 PSFB controller with with integrated MOSFET for 300Watt output power application?
Here I just want to avoid additional gate driver, as we have integrated gate driver PSFB controller solution available with us.

    2. Considering Push-pull topology, can we use LM25037 dual mode PWM controller for this application?

    3. Which solution will be better for Automotive application (electric vehicle)?

  • Hi Rajesh,
The recommended operating Vin voltage of LM5046 is 14V to 100V. The recommended operating Vin voltage of LM25037 is 5.5V to 75V. They both can't satisfy you request spec input voltage 83V to 110V.
