LM5060-Q1: Temperature

Part Number: LM5060-Q1

Hello,

Would this component withstand 120 deg C ambient temperature continuously and 140 deg C for 120 hours randomly.

The conditions are: load current around 2 A, input voltage from 48 V battery, so ranges from 36- 54 V with nominal voltage of 48V

  • Hi Timur,

    Thanks for reaching out!
LM5060-Q1 is grade-1 device, so, it can be safely used applications up to 125 deg C. I will check the feasibility of operation at 140 deg C for 120 hours and let you know.
You mentioned 120 hours. Is it continuous 120 hours or what is the frequency ?

Can you also share more details about your application use case and end product.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • Hello Rakesh,

120 hours is random and cannot be predicted. It should be 120 hours in total with random appearance among 7000 hours.

It is going to be used in DC Brushed motor application

  • Hi Timur,

Thanks for the details. That's pretty long interval.
Operation at 140 deg C is not feasible as it causes device junction temperature to exceed 150 deg C and may cause permanent damage to the device.

Device draws current of 1.7 mA (max) and at 48V, the power dissipation would be 81.6 mW.
For LM5060-Q1, Junction to ambient thermal resistance = 162.1 C/W.

81.6 mW power dissipation leads to a temperature rise of 81.6 mW*162.1 C/W = 13.2 C over ambient. So, junction reaches over 153.2C when operated at 140 deg C.

    Please look for Grade-0 devices.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • Hello Rakesh,

Could the thermal resistance be reduced using 4 layer PCB with large copper area and using thermal vias for heat dissipation?

Can you suggest any similar devices, which are Grade-0, because I could not find any

  • Hi Timur,

Yes, thermal resistance can be reduced with more copper area and Vias but continuous operation above 125C will impact the device reliability. Unfortunately, we do not have Grade-0 devices to offer.

    Rakesh
