TPS1663: eFuse IEC60950-1 and IEC62368-1 compliance

Hi,

I have a question about your eFuses, and the TPS1663 in particular.

Is it possible to use this to design a limited power supply that complies with 2.5 in IEC60950-1? And to claim an energy source classification that complies with 5.2 in IEC62368-1?

Does the component complies with the single fault conditions that are described in these two standards?

Hello Fredrik,

TPS1663 devices could be used for ES1 source under Section 5.2 in IEC62638 or Limited power source under Section 2.5 in IEC60950.

SIngle fault conditions arising out of abnormal operating conditions such as overload and short circuit at output can be handled by TPS1663 devices.

For abnormal conditions such as reverse battery and reverse polarity, TPS2663 device would be suitable.

Hello Lokesh,

Thank you, I think that the eFuse is suitable for our design!

The reverse polarity protection; is this needed for the eFuse itself? In our application we don't need reverse polarity protection for the load.

Hello Fredrik,

TPS1663 device cannot withstand negative voltage on inputs. A diode would be required at Input for reverse polarity at the input.

TPS2663 device have the capability to drive external reverse blocking FET and can also protect the load from reverse polarity on the input.
