TPS23880: TPS23880 cannot work

Part Number: TPS23880
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23881

Hi Sir

We are having problems with the POE circuit. After soldering the circuit, the TPS23772 can work correctly and correctly handshake the output voltage. However, the TPS23880 does not have a handshake signal output. The GAT1 and GAT2 pins are always low, and there is no signal, as if the IC is not powered. However, measuring 3.3V and 52V power supply are normal, please help confirm what is the reason. the TPS23880 Circuit diagram such as attachment

  • Hi Darren,

I didn't see there's a host controller connected to TPS23880 through SCL and SDA. TPS23880 requires host controller to load SRAM and configure the device before handshaking and outputting power to PDs. If you don't host controller available in your system and want to have autonomous PSE device, TPS23881 is the right part for you. We are in the process of sampling the IC on 05/31. Hopefully you can order samples and EVMs in early June. TPS23881 is pin to pin compatible with TPS23880 and you just need add 1 resistor and 1 capacitor on AUTO pin (pin 52) to configure the power level. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny

  • Hi Penny
thinks for your help; however, I cannot find the TPS23881 datasheet from TI's web, could you help provide the TPS23881 datasheets for us, tks!
  • Hi Darren,

As I said before, we are in the process of putting everything on TI.com now and you should be able to find datasheet, EVM, reference code and GUI in first week of June. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Penny
