UCC23513: UCC23513 specification questions

Part Number: UCC23513

Hi team,

Please clarify followings.

- VF vs. IF monotonicity
In the data sheet, VF has min/max value in 7mA - 16mA. Does this mean VF(min)=1.8V corresponds to IF=7mA, and VF(max) corresponds to IF=16mA?

- IFLH
We see contradiction between max(IFLH)=4mA and min(IF_ON)=7mA. How should we understand this difference? and How could the device behave in 7mA>IF>4mA?

- Decoupling cap
What is the recommendable value of decoupling cap on hot side Vcc - Vee? Is it 1uF? If 0.1uF is used as decoupling, how the device could behave? (degraded in CMTI, etc.?)

Best regards,
Iwata Etsuji

  • Hi Iwata-san,

Thanks for your interest in our drivers, my name is Mamadou Diallo from the High Power Drivers group.

    1.VF vs. IF monotonicity

VF is the anode to cathode voltage which is rated at 2.2V max. Knowing this clamp voltage, the IF current is proportional to this voltage as shown on the input resistor calculator found on the .

The document below shows the relationship between the 2 parameters.

    2.  IFLH

Apologies for the confusion. IFLH (4mA max) is the minimum input threshold to allow internal bias of the LC oscillator to generator the high frequency carrier accross the isolation barrier while IF is the minimum recommended operating current for the e-diode to ensure it is fully on. So in other words, at 4mA, the internal bias will be activated but the e-diode will not be transmitting until enough current is provide which is 7mA minimum and 11mA typical.

    3. Section 9.2.2.5 of the datasheet details the capacitor size and selection to be: two parallel MLCC, 50-V, 10-μF and 0.22-μF are recommended for decoupling of the driver's supply. Generally, >0.1uF and >1uF ceramic capacitors should be capable of filtering transients on the supply while showing little variation in capacitance over temperature and supply.
