TPS63020: VIAN is short to Ground

hello sir,

I have one customer used TPS63020, details application as below, they find one device VIAN pin is short to Ground.

vin:：3V

output：3.6V

output current：100mA, it will be output 1.6A peak current when MT2503( base band IC) transmit in 700us.

pls refer below schematic, and provide suggestion what reason will lead this issue.

Hi Lina,

Is VINA to GND short observed while the device was on the board or when the device was removed? Could you please confirm that it was not a manufacturing/soldering problem, For example by replacing the device?

hello milos,
they remove the device to measure the VINA impedance, and replace good IC, it can work as usual .

Hi Lina,

So, after replacing the IC, the circuit now works properly?

If this problem does not appear again, then the first device was likely damaged during the assembly.

yes, customer want to know, what's root cause damage this VIAN pin of this IC?

Hi Lina,

It is difficult to say what is the root cause based only on one failed unit. It could have been an overvoltage on the input power supply, or the unit could have been damaged during the assembly.

Did the failed unit worked properly and then failed at one point, or it never worked at all?
