TPS40170: the snubber circuit design

Part Number: TPS40170

Hi team,

I have a question about the snubber circuit.

When designing the snubber circuit, is it effective even if I use the small size capacitor?

(ex. 0201, 01005 size)

I think when the capacitor size of the snubber circuit is small, does the pattern become thin and

current does not flow easily. therefore, I wonder if the effect of the snubber circuit be reduced.

I' appreciate if you could answer a question.

Best Regards,

keisuke

  • It sounds like your interested in knowing the impact of switching to smaller snubber component sizes to reduce track width of the corresponding circuit and overall circuit size.

I do not see much of a consequence of using smaller component sizes. The component sizes should be selected for the average energy they will shunt to ground.

One influence of changing the track width of the snubber network is it may give rise to some additional parasitic track inductance, that will change the response of your circuit. You'll probably have the tune the circuit for the frequency of oscillation (ringing) on the SW node.
  • Dear Marshall

    Thank you for your reply.
    I understand.
