BQ25710: Recommend battery charge IC for LI-ION cell *3 in series

Part Number: BQ25710
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25713

I try to find a battery charge IC for 3*LI-ION cells. Each Vcell=4.2V,  Vin=12V, Iout>=3A. Could I use the BQ25710? It's an buck-boost switch mode. With 12V input, whether I could use this IC to charge three cells in seires? Thanks.

  • Hi Tess,

Definitely! I think BQ25710 (or BQ25713 if your uC works better with 8-bit I2C versus 16-bit SMBUS) is your best choice for this application. Since you have 12V input and the battery is going to charge up to 12.6V, you need a buck-boost architecture. The BQ25710 can charge from 1-4 series LiIon cells.
