UCC256301: About other isolated power IC used in the Half-Bridge method

Part Number: UCC256301
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00512, UCD3138A

Dear all,

Would you mind if you ask about isolated power IC?

Now our customer evaluate UCC256301 using EVM.

However, they are looking for an isolated power supply IC that does not automatically restart after over current protection is activated.

I heard that there are no isolated power supply IC with such a specification in TI, is it really so?

It would be great if you could let me know your thoughts this cause.

Best Regards,

  • Hello Y.Ottey,

It is true that most of TI's controllers do not have an over-current latch-off function. I made a search of controllers feature set and could not find any "latch-off" feature. Some controllers do have that option, but finding them is not easy.
I ran another search of TI.com for "OCP latch-off" and 176 documents came up. I scanned through a few pages and found one involving a TIDA-00512 reference design Test Results document. This design Performance Specifications table states that "Output over current" allows 10 s of 30 A (12-V output), then latch-off shutdown. It uses the UCD3138A programmable digital controller, which not may be what you are looking for.

However, you can run the same search ( "OCP latch-off" ) and examine all of the results. Perhaps one of the devices in the document results fit your requirements.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
