BQ76PL455EVM: Query about the schematic provided for the IC

Part Number: BQ76PL455EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL455A

Hi,

In the schematic provided for the board, there is a reference to pins:

BAT16 and BAT0.

I am unlcear as to the function of these pins.

In the above figure, there is a DNP connection with a red cross running through it. I am not sure what that connection signifies either.

Any help in clearing up these doubts is extremely appreciated.

Thank You

  • Hi Saharsh,

The distinction between BAT0 is the negative reference for cell 1 connected to local GND of the module vs. BATS0 is connected to the Vsense0 pin. The same applies for BAT16S (connected to Vsense16) while BAT16 is connected to the BAT line as to prevent IR drop from this line into the sense. In our design recommendations document for the bq76pl455a here: www.ti.com/.../slua791a.pdf section 5 explains the reasons for connecting Vsense0 in this way. As for the red cross, this signifies that the component is DNP (Did not populate) on the board so it is essentially the same as an open connection.

    Regards,

    Taylor
  • Hi Taylor

Thank you for your reply. I apologize for the late response, got caught up in some other work.

I am still a little unclear as to what are the connections for the BAT16S and the BAT0S pins on the battery pack side. Does BAT0S connect to the negative terminal of the 1st cell as well and the BAT16S pin, does it connect to the positive of the 16th cell of the battery pack?

    Thank You

  • Hi Saharsh,

No BAT0S does not connect to BAT16, it is the sense connection for VC0 only (bottom terminal of cell1).

    Regards,

    Taylor
