BQ28Z610: is there a replacement part with 2 thermistor inputs?

Hello,

I have 2 questions.

1. The series resistor on the VC2 pin for cell balancing is 5 ohm. is there a valid range for this value? if i increase this value do i need to increase the value of resistor on VC1 as well?

2. This IC has just 1 thermistor input. since i am using 2 series cells, i will need to sense the cell temperature for each. is there a comparable part with 2 thermistor inputs or is there a way i can use the TS1 pin and connect 2 thermistors to it (though a mux for example)?

No, if you are using internal balancing, please use the defaults.
Yes, you can use the bq40z50-r2.

Hi Batt,

Do you know if the BQ28Z610 gauge has any internal memory which can be used to store manufacturing related information? I believe the BQ34Z100 gauge i have used earlier had 32 user definable bytes. Anything similar in the BQ28Z610?

Yes, we have the system data subsection in which in the manufacturer data class you can store 32 bytes.

Hi Batt,

Thanks for the update. The datasheet for the BQ28Z610 does not have any information on these 32 bytes. is it available in some other application note?

Sorry, no. But you can see the individual register addresses in the df using bqstudio. They are in locations 0x4041-0x4060.

Hello,

I am using the BQ28z610 EVM and monitoring the chg and dsg pins on the scope. I have a single connected across the J2 pins (i have shorted 1p-2p) to support single cell operation.

i have NOT connected any charger or load across the pack terminals. when i press the switch S1, the FETS go on for a brief moment and then the dsg fet is disabled and after some time the chg FET drive gets low around 2.3V and stays there. all communication with the EV2400 is lost. is this expected?

i have removed the i2c jumpers P2 and P3. the scope plot is below. is there anything else that needs to be done?

Please set DA Config: CC0 to 0. Then reset the gauge, after that it should work.
