BQ51050B: Device activates wireless charger but does not charge battery completely

Part Number: BQ51050B

Hi,

I have been struggling to debug a circuit containing the BQ51050B.

After tuning the capacitors several times (Settled with C1: 246nF, C2: 1.89nF) the device is placed on a wireless charger and the charge led on the charger lights up.

Unfortunately, the battery (3.7V 2200mAh Li-Po) never charges to completion, only enough to disable to low voltage cutout. I have also tried charging the same batteries with a higher level of initial charge which do not charge either.

I have tried increasing the current limit and multiple different chargers, all to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The charge schematic is attached below, please note C30 and C34 form C1 and C38 and C37 form C2, their values are as referenced above not per the schematic.

I have tied AD to GND through a jumper which made no difference either.

Thanks,

Tom Hulbert

  • Hello

    Some things to check on:
1.) AD must be pulled low or have 1uF capacitor connected. You did note this, but wanted to double check.
2.) TERM should be connected to ground thru a resistor, recommend 2.4k or 10%.
3.) R54 value of 200 ohms is very low recommend removing for not.
4.) TS/CTRL need to connect to ground using a 10k NTC or resistor.
